This is my 7-piece series on how design changed my life. This conceptual presentation is based on the principles in relation to my growth in the field. They are meant to make the viewer see the vastness of life and design. We are all here to shine or to create our own galaxy.
Often, we look at the world, but don’t truly see it. In addition to rose colored glasses or illusions, we all see the world through a lens. Design helped me look outwards at the bigger picture. I started to notice the beauty of the everyday. The bright colors that surround us and how they impact our psychology. The lines that connect to each other creating the ebb and flow of shape. Our personal values and hues that bring attention to aspects of our life. Space that we all need and how it can create balance in personal life and in a composition. The form that can create our personality and give our visualization the character. The texture and feelings that we have that keep us grounded in the moment.
COLOR
IT LIVES IN THE MIND
When you see warm colors does it make you happy and warm inside. Does the cool colored room make you fell calm and collected. I loved the way color could make me feel, it inspired me to pursue psychology and the study of human behavior. Color became something more then just waves of light, but a way of expression.
LINE
LEADS YOU TO A POINT
Even without shading or color, line can get across a lot. A wavy line can make you think of water, fluidity, and flow. Line taught me that even something plain could be varied to such a degree that the opportunity would be limitless. I think lines are often overlooked because they create shapes, but in their simplicity lies power.
VALUE
WHAT WE DEEM IMPORTANT
Bright or dull value can bring our attention to our views on the world. What we focus on grows and value lies in design to do just that. Our outlook on life can influence what our eyes are drawn to in a composition. Value has nurtured my love for vibrant colors when life seemed to be dim.
SPACE
HOLDS YOUR BREATH
It’s hard to look at a design that is too cluttered, but many find it hard achieving simplicity without too much empty space. The concept of space taught me to balance my life while not taking over working and asking for help when I need it. Space used in an effective way can make a bigger impact than noise ever will.
FORM
FORGES YOUR CONTOUR
Knowing your personality is a formed of aspects like line and color, these helped me look at life more objectively. Like form is combination of design principles, our character is forged with different experiences we go through. Form can add solidity to any design and make space feel meaningful. It helped me find myself by continue to pursue challenge and development.
TEXTURE
SHOWS YOU MY WORLD
Looking at the world and being present in the moment can enrich our lives. Texture conveys feeling and can bring your audience into your composition. It helped me explored what was around me and find new sensations. Like the gritty texture of fabric can remind one of ruggedness and bring forth memories.
