Updated: Mar 2, 2023

EASY STEPS TO MAKE YOUR VISION COME TO LIFE

The most frustrating thing for you and your team can be to throw away days of effort, just to realize the results aren’t what you anticipated. I came up with a few steps to help clean and concise communication between you and your creative team. Send this to your team or employer to make the process smoother and mistakes rarer. The best way to keep everyone happy is to all be on the same page when it comes to your common goals.

1. BE CLEAR AND CONCISE

Don’t be shy with your ideas and any detail you think might be important. The worst thing you can do is be wishy washy when you have a concept in mind. Point out things you like and dislike; with anything ranging from images, words or colors that associate with your vision. Since design is general subjective in its nature, your preferences go a long way to creating pleasurable visuals. Explain in detail where the ideas came from also help your designer find a place to start.

Tip: You can make a short list of key elements or words that can be used on hand with your team.

2. VISUAL CUES

This is where your inspiration comes into play. As a creative being, you may have seen a design or images and imagined yourself there. Those are the visual cues talking, you have just solidified a want and desire for a certain creation. Take it and run with it, grab the image that inspired you. Marvel at the delicious cake or be intrigued by the diagonal lines. (Colors, fonts, illustration style, layout) Send your creative team designs you like, whether new or previous. Most importantly don’t forget to tell them why you liked them in the first place!

Tip: Pinterest is the ideal place for image surfing, they provide you with tailored results to enjoy!

3. TALK GOALS

Now that we know the design is going to be all you every wanted visual, mention your goals. Why do you want it designed in the first place? Is it to be a show stopper, to inform or maybe even to educate? The reason why you need the design will prompt your team to ask you the important questions. These will detail; things such as your audience, deliverables, timeline, and budget. To get the best results I want you to focus on deliverables. Consider will it be printed or online, sizes big or small; in general, how will it be viewed and enjoyed.

Tip: The more specific and detailed you can be at the start, creates a smoother

process overall.

Now that you have communicated the details in the most clear and concise way. Talked about your favorite visual cues and goals. It’s better to use a little more time at the start to know you’re getting the right result. You can now be confident that you conveyed your inherent design needs and have them met!
